The occurrence of natural disasters is increasing - New Zealand earthquake, Japan earthquake, Queensland floods, Victorian bushfires, Hurricane Katrina – satellite communication is critical for the welfare and safety of society in the event of a disaster. Fibre connections are many times destroyed instantly once these disasters occur with satellite communication often the only means of communication.
Communications infrastructure is essential to recovery efforts. Whether they are required as a result of a natural disaster or network connectivity issues, communications are often required on demand with little warning. Satellite communications provide quick, effective recovery, to ensure recovery efforts are not inhibited, and help environments to be restored as soon as possible. VSAT services can be deployed anywhere and are an ideal standalone disaster recovery tool.
NewSat assisted the bushfire recovery in some of the hardest hit communities Kinglake and Buxton during the 2009 Victorian bushfires. The fibre in the ground melted therefore NewSat assisted the department with developing a technical solution using NewSat’s Teleport infrastructure as well as providing 2 x CIR piles for 30 stations for Vicmap Position-GPSnet.
